FIELD NOTES

Understanding text length

Word and character limits describe human-facing copy, while UTF-8 byte counts matter for transport and storage. Unicode characters may use multiple bytes.

Word boundaries differ across languages. This tool uses the browser's Unicode-aware segmentation when available and a whitespace rule otherwise.
